Learning Enrichment Center Tutor Anne McGraw Presents at NCAIS Conference

On Friday, January 31st, Davidson Day Learning Enrichment Center Tutor Anne McGraw presented at the sold-out North Carolina Association of Independent Schools Neurodiversity Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Registrants and presenters attended various sessions to explore ways to reach children who need different approaches and strategies to learn.
Anne’s presentation, Teach Them Early, Teach Them Often, focused on the importance of teaching children, from a very young age, how to develop their executive functioning skills, including time management, task initiation, working memory, planning, organizing, and flexibility. Anne shared ways to specifically address each skill and how to teach students why these life skills are important. The earlier children learn these skills, the more successful they will be at school and in life.

"Sharing ideas and strategies with professionals in the education world is a wonderful way to collaborate with and learn from each other,” Anne said. “This happens daily in the LEC, but it was an invaluable experience to get off campus and learn from teachers at our other state-wide independent schools. I am grateful that Davidson Day prioritizes continuing education for its teachers and staff."

Anne has been in the education space for over 20 years, and she has been a tutor with the Learning Enrichment Center for the last five years. Two years ago, alongside Director of Learning Services Laurissa Ecker-Berkman, Anne developed an executive skills curriculum for Davidson Day’s fifth graders transitioning to Middle School.

“It was so rewarding to see Anne present to a room full of her peers sharing her expertise,” Laurissa said. “I’m proud of the work she does with our students at Davidson Day and how she has enhanced our program in the Learning Enrichment Center.”
